“It’s storytelling. You’re going to get the audience used to the experience of it,” Tom Cruise told USA Today this week in advance of today’s trailer for “Edge Of Tomorrow.” “And then you get to have them laugh with it.” Does he mean audiences are going to laugh at/with the fact that Cruise’s character dies over and over again, to the point that the Doug Liman-directed film already has a built-in and ready hashtag (#LiveDieRepeat—we know you’re just dying to use it).
Well, the first real look at the movie is here so you’ll just have to tell us how it all works for you. But in case you’re thinking, “Hey, didn’t Cruise just make the sci-fi ‘Oblivion‘?” the actor basically says two high-concept pictures back to back was coincidence and timing. “Look, I make all different kinds of movies,” he says. “When Doug (Liman) came to me and said what the story was and the design, I thought, ‘This is going to be cool. It’s going to be very different than anything I’ve done before.’ “
Well, we’ll give him that. Here’s the official synopsis:
The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
Co-starring Emily Blunt, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Bill Paxton, “Edge of Tomorrow” opens on June 6, 2014. Watch below.

the song used in the trailer is "this is not the end" by fieldwork
Say what you want Playlist. This actually looks kick ass. I was expecting a shitty trailer… but I'm looking forward to this.
The plot sounds really similar to Duncan Jones' Source Code…
Anyone else notice the movie is releasing on the 70th anniversary of D-Day? Someone knows how to successfully market a movie depicting an invasion of France…
Wow. That was actually a kick ass trailer. And even quite arty too with the electronic "this is not the end" line playing over and over (was that a song???). Makes Spider Man and Godzilla look dumb.
Cruise looks dumb in a helmet. No wonder he wanted Edward Scissorhands to have plastic surgery.
This is: Vanilla Sky + War of the Worlds + Oblivion. First movie of TC in 3D. Ticket sales: 13,5 millions. Price average: 12,73. Gross USA: 171.8 millions. Rottentomatoes: 72%.

tom cruise saves the world again! his ego knows no bounds
#looks #sick
Saw some more footage at Comic Con but this looks pretty great. Only thing lacking is the un-original (or so it appears) alien design. Give us something new!
It's like Groundhog Day was given acid, been given hi-tech rifles and set on fire.
The trailer looks great! Emily Blunt and the Black List script are my top reasons to see this!
So disappointing. Tom, please DO A GOOD MOVIE THIS CENTURY
All these movies just look the same these day. Explosions, Aliens or if not Aliens, Robots. And then more explosions.
Its proximity to Oblivion is unfortunate because Doug Liman is about a billion times more talented than Joseph Kosinski.
Cause we all know the only thing more fun than #hashtags are #hashtags that Tom Cruise and his friends tell us to use!
