David Wain has given comedy fans “Wet Hot American Summer,” “The State,” “Stella,” “Role Models” and more, and for his next trick? He’s taking on rom-coms with “They Came Together,” and the results look promising.
Starring Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd, and penned by Wain and frequent collaborator Michael Showalter, the genre spoof (of sorts) follows knick-knack shop owner who crosses paths with a company man, whose firm is trying to shut her store down. What happens next? As our review out of the Sundance Film Festival attests, it’s something with “a silly, goofy smile and a sharp, savage bite.” And featuring a roster of solid co-stars including Max Greenfield, Ed Helms, Michael Ian Black, Cobie Smulders, Ken Marino, Jack McBrayer, Kenan Thompson, Jason Mantzouakas and more, this thing has comedic ringers at every turn.
“They Came Together” hits theatres and VOD on June 27th. [Buzzfeed]
