From her wacky YouTube channel to her numerous comedic roles, we mostly associate Elizabeth Banks with making us laugh (or assisting Katniss in "The Hunger Games" movies). But the actress is eager to prove that her dramatic chops are just as strong, so she’s got a couple of indies on the way that should establish those particular bona fides. Amy Berg‘s "Every Secret Thing" hit the festival circuit this year, that same process is underway for "Little Accidents," and the first trailer is here.
Written and directed by Sara Colangelo, the film tells a story set in a mining town where the disappearance of a teenage boy brings secrets long buried right to the surface. It’s a movie we called "sell-intentioned, competently shot and put together, solidly acted" but that unfortunately winds up with an "unearned resolution, and cuts to neat and tidy black rather than dealing truthfully with the messy consequences that truth-telling can bring."
Co-starring Boyd Holbrook, Chloe Sevingy, Jacob Lofland, and Josh Lucas, "Little Accidents" opens in theaters and on VOD on January 16th.
