There are a lot of interesting factors in the mix for Marvel‘s next sequel, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” With the shield-bearing hero being brought into sync with the post-“The Avengers” timeline, the movie is tossing together first-time tentpole directors Anthony and Joe Russo, veteran Robert Redford in a key role and Anthony Mackie flying in to help as Falcon. It’s an interesting array of ingredients, but can it recreate the breezy, throwback vibe of “Captain America: The First Avenger“? Or will it be something different?

Chris Evans returns, once again drawn into saving the day and the world from peril, though this time without the assistance of Iron Man and his Avenger pals. But that’s fine, because this time Steve Rogers has a couple of other pals to call upon. Here’s the official, vague synopsis:
After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

Like all blockbusters nowadays, this movie doesn't look like it was written by a person. More like a marketing department. Sad.
The timeline is perfect and having the Captain fighting terrorist esque enemies seems legit with todays issues. I for one did not enjoy the first one as much as others, I still enjoyed it, but not as much as I may enjoy the sequel. Plotholes will always be an issue with every movie so plotholes do not ruin a movie for me as long as I remain entertained. I think this will be a winner.
So… the friend who flew off that train to his death hundreds of feet below is back now? Another example of how there are ZERO consequences in these pandering Marvel films because money. Agent Coulson is still the funniest resurrection.
Am I the only person that wishes that Nick Fury ends up as the villain in one of these films? He's such a preachy, lame, unlikeable character (given little charm or investment by a clearly bored Jackson) that his presence has been a burden on many of these films. Just from snippets of Redford's performance in the early stretch of the film (the character is clearly the good father figure GONE ROGUE), you can see how an actor can inject some warmth into his archetype. Can the Redford character please turn out to be the hero and kill this obnoxious, one-note asshole?
It looks…. BORING. Even though the first film isn't amazing, at least it was set in the old days and not frickin modern day New York where every single film seems to take place now. Change the setting!
So Captain America can jump without a 'chute, jump through windows unfazed, take out a bunch of guys in an elevator, and whatever else… So can Indiana Jones. Or John McClane. Or Jack Reacher. And some of those guys are actually funny, too. So…tell me again why I care?
This looks like a Marvel flick down in a Bourne style. This is a good thing
To bad they placed CA into the modern context. It lost it's individuality. Production in First Avenger was very good. Though this trailer looks decent I dont' expect anything terrific from that flick.
I like the "Cap vs the Military Industrial Complex" angle, similar to some of the recent stories in the comics.
I actually liked "Captain America" because it was made like an old propaganda film which made it unique in the Marvel universe … this just looks like everything else. People have to get bored at some point, right?
Looks like the most generic, disposable, juvenile crap. Ugly, shaky digital cinematography. Does anyone in their right mind look at that trailer and go: "looks like an interesting story" But nerds will eat this up. Looks like a mashup of Mission: Impossible, Star Trek into Darkness, Transformers and Avengers..
As with "Thor," the sequel looks to be a hell of a step up.
