It seems we’re having a mini-moment with cannibals. Eli Roth‘s "The Green Inferno" recently dropped into cinemas, following a group of do-gooders who encounter flesh eaters in the jungle. Now, a movie will take audiences to the Old West where more less civilized minds look to dine on their fellow man.
Following its premiere at Fantastic Fest, the first trailer for "Bone Tomahawk" has landed. Directed by Craig S. Zahler, and starring Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, David Arquette, and Richard Jenkins, the story follows a sheriff who rounds up some dudes to confront a bunch of cannibalistic cave-dwellers. Here’s the full synopsis:
A stranger (David Arquette) rolls into the tiny Western town of Bright Hope, immediately drawing the suspicions of the backup deputy Chicory (Richard Jenkins). He alerts the town’s sheriff, Franklin Hunt (Kurt Russell) and in an ensuing scuffle, the stranger is wounded and put in jail. Summoned to tend to the wounded man is the beautiful Samantha O’Dwyer (Lili Simmons), whose successful working-class husband Arthur (Patrick Wilson) is laid out at home with a broken leg.
Sometime in the night, a local stable boy is torn to pieces, horses are stolen and Samantha and the stranger disappear. The only clue left behind is a rather peculiar looking arrow, a weapon their local Indian expert identifies as belonging to tribe of cannibalistic troglodytes. Having no alternative but to face these cave-dwelling abominations, Sheriff Hunt, Chicory, Arthur O’Dwyer and the dashing, highly educated gentleman John Brooder (Matthew Fox) head out on a rescue mission.
"Bone Tomahawk" opens in limited release and hits iTunes and VOD on October 23rd. Watch below.
Yer, Brigands of Rattleborge was also written by the writer/director of this, so I\’m sure that adds to the similarities.
This was way more appealing to me back when it had Peter Sarsgaard and John Hawkes, instead of Matthew Fox and Patrick Wilson. Talk about the downgrade of all downgrades.
\’cannibalistic troglodytes\’ and \’cave-dwelling abominations\’? Wow, I\’m glad Hollywood is working hard to improve its representation of Native Americans.

I always get Bone Tomahawk confused with the soon to be made Brigands of Rattleborge. Similar stories and settings.
