The last time Mads Mikkelsen was at Cannes, he walked away with a Best Actor award for his turn in “The Hunt.” Now two years later, he’ll be back walking the red carpet on the Croisette, but in something a bit different. Instead of a Competition film, the actor will be hoping to thrill audiences in the Midnight Screening selection “The Salvation.” And the first trailer is here.
Featuring a pretty solid supporting cast including Eva Green, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jonathan Pryce, Eric Cantona and Mikael Persbrandt, and directed by Kristian Levring (who also produced “The Hunt”), the 1870s set film follows a mild-mannered settler in America, who takes on the ruthless gang leader who murdered his family. Mads Mikkelsen out for blood? Hell yes, please. Well….at least in theory, as this trailer is a bit disappointing and we’re not sure what kind of tone it’s going for. But maybe it’s just cut badly?
We’ll find out soon enough. Cannes kicks off on May 15th. Watch below.
best midnight movie to play in cannes in years (maybe decades) –
– move over spaghetti westerns, make way for danish bacon westerns
mads is great and it looked amazing on the big screen in the palais!!!
Where is the trailer? Was it that bad? Love Love Love #MadsMikkelsen.
This looks like an absolute trainwreck.
I hope the film is better than its trailer…
Actually, he was at Cannes last year as well for Michael Kohlhaas which played in competition.
