It’s hard to believe, but the Cannes Film Festival kicks off next week. And that means the next seven days are going to see a lot of material flooding out there about the films hoping to break out, and one that’s in the mix for the Palme d’Or is “La Merviglie,” and the first trailer has arrived promising a unique experience.
The sophomore feature film effort from Alice Rohrwacher, who made a name for herself with 2011’s “Corpo Celeste,” it will be her first time on the Croisette where she will unveil a tale about four sisters and one summer that touches all their lives. Here’s the official synopsis:
It’s the summer of four sisters led by Gelsomina, the eldest, heir to the small and strange kingdom that her father had built to protect his family from the world “that is about to end”. It’s an extraordinary summer, in which the rules that hold the family together weaken: on one hand, the arrival in their home of Martin, a German boy in rehabilitation, on the other, the incursion into their territory of a TV contest with prizes, “Il paese delle Meraviglie” (“The Country of Wonders”), conducted by good fairy Milly Catena.
We’re really liking the vibe coming off this one, and the casting of Monica Bellucci seems completely spot on for the part. Take a look below, followed by lots of a images and poster for the film. [C7nema]
