When "The Leftovers" wrapped up its first season, writer and producer Damon Lindelof had a problem: all the source material from Tom Perrotta‘s novel had been used up. So, heading into the second season, Lindelof made a serious shift: dumping a good portion of the cast and relocating the show to East Texas. The result? Well, you can get a first taste below.
Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Christopher Eccleston, and Carrie Coon all return to the show, and first synopsis reveals we’re getting a time jump as we roll forward:
More than three years ago, 2% of the world’s population inexplicably vanished. 140 million people, gone in an instant. No country, no state, no city was spared, except for one small town in eastern Texas. Population: 9261. Departures: Zero.
I have to admit, that’s a great approach, which dips into the show’s supernatural side, and allows the writers to peer into the reasons of the disappearance…and why it’s not happening in this town.
"The Leftovers" returns this fall. Watch below.
All the trees in East Texas were departed, obviously.
I loved this teaser. I love the show…but…
What the shit?? They filmed this in Texas and they don\’t know the geographic difference between east and west Texas? East Texas has pine trees forever! West Texas is desert and plains.
