“Gone Girl” certainly has a lot of variables at play. On the one hand, it co-stars Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry, not the names you might immediately associate with a David Fincher film. On the other hand, it’s based on a bestseller by Gillian Flynn (who wrote a new ending for the film), it brings Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross back to score, and the material is right in Fincher’s thriller wheelhouse. The result? Well, judge for yourself, as the first trailer is here.
Starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, the thriller tells the tale of a woman (Pike) who disappears on her fifth wedding anniversary, with all the evidence pointing to her husband Nick (the role played by Affleck). So, will this send Fincher back into Oscar contention? Or is this just a sharply executed genre flick that will provide some top shelf fall entertainment? Those questions will slowly be answered over the coming months as prognosticators weigh in on this first look, and we’ll be eager to see what you say in the comments section.
Co-starring Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Carrie Coon and Emily Ratajkowski, “Gone Girl” opens on October 3, 2014. Fyi, the song is the trailer is cover of Elvis Costello‘s “She” by Richard Butler of the Psychedelic Furs. Listen to the original below.
Nobody cuts a trailer like Fincher. Unfortunately, his movies are only as good as the screenplay.
Pretty shitty when your site doesn't even have permission to share the trailer.
Then again, pretty shitty of the studio to block people from freely advertising their movie. Really dumb move by whichever studio. Yeah, get people to actually see a trailer for a movie & a book I've never heard of, but had interest in checking out? Screw all of you plebian movie buffs, I guess, is their stance. REALLY FREAKING STUPID MOVE, bruh!
The book's ending was so freakin stupid and the main characters were so unlikeable. Pass.
The Gone Girl Trailer is Gone, Girl.
Horrible song over the trailer. They should have gone with a more serious tone for the first trailer, won't surprise me if this movie bombs.
The cover of "She" in the trailer is a newly recorded version by Richard Butler of The Psychedelic Furs. It's not the 1999 Elvis Costello cover from "Notting Hill". The song was originally recorded by Charles Azanavour in the 70s.
I love Rosamund Pike and she looks great here. Ben Affleck worries the shit out of me, after watching this…
And like Circusfolk asked, no mention of the Elvis Costello song here? I think it's so dope, how they used it.
Rosamund Pike is PERFECT casting here. Wow. Amazing Amy for an Oscar!
No mention of the song that plays the entire trailer? You're slipping.
Wasn't sure about any of the casting choices, but after watching this it looks like I could be wrong. Affleck as Nick seems a truly inspired bit of casting.
In Fincher we trust.
WOW
I love these kinds of trailers. They give you a sense of what the movie is about, but don't actually tell you anything.
And also, having read the books, Ben Affleck is perfect for this role. I'm curious to see how Rosamund Pike is going to play her character.
Looks goooood.
I love how everything Fincher is shooting lately is lit like a seedy hotel.
ehhh
