Watch: First Clip & New Footage From Horror Sequel ‘Wolf Creek 2’

The Aussie horror “Wolf Creek” was only a modest success for Dimension Films in 2004. Granted it was produced for a song so the $16 million domestic gross was mostly cheddar for Bob, but cheapo horrors tend to be much more profitable on the whole (it would only gross $22 million worldwide). Not only that, reviews were mixed. The film only has a 53% RT score (Roger Ebert, The New York Times and LAT all gave it negative reviews), but some key critics were impressed. EW’s Owen Gleiberman called it “an unusually crisp and boldly shot Texas Chainsaw Massacre knockoff,” and perhaps more importantly, the film received a critical reassessment when Slant Magazine placed it on their 100 best films of the decade list.

And so almost 10 years after the fact, a “Wolf Creek 2” has arrived by director Greg McLean once again, who directed “Rogue” and the celebrated indie “Red Hill” in 2010 (he was also up for the “Paranormal Activity 2” gig, but wisely went another way). Of course other than John Jarratt as Mick Taylor, the original cast hasn’t returned for reasons that should be obvious (the story revolved around three backpackers who found themselves held captive by a serial killer in the Australian outback). “Wolf Creek 2” sounds, well, a little more of the same according to this one-line synopsis: “The outback once more becomes a place of horror as another unwitting tourist becomes the prey for crazed, serial-killing pig-shooter Mick Taylor.”

But horror fans tend to be if nothing, at least dedicated. Playing (surprisingly) at the Venice Film Festival a new clip from the film has arrived as well as a few new photos and some behind the scenes footage. Check it out below. No word on a U.S. release date yet.
