Got a Tip?

Watch: First Clip From Dardennes’ Cannes Drama ‘Two Days, One Night’ Starring Marion Cotillard

Two Days, One Night"That was one of my best experiences," Marion Cotillard tells the LA Times plainly about working with Luc and Pierre Dardenne on their upcoming "Two Days, One Night." "They offered me everything I had always wanted in a relationship between an actress and a director — well, two directors in that case. They work a lot, and I love to work a lot. Their level of demand is the highest I’ve ever encountered in my career, and that’s what I’m looking for. They pushed me as far as I could go and maybe beyond. I would have done anything they asked me."

And that work will shortly be on evidence at the Cannes Film Festival where the movie will once again find the filmmakers in Competition. This time around, the duo tell a story that centers on a young woman who has only one weekend to convince her colleagues they must give up their bonuses in order for her to keep her job. Olivier Gourmet—who has previously worked the Dardennes on "The Son," "The Kid With A Bike," "L’Enfant," "Lorna’s Silence" and "Rosetta—stars opposite Cotillard in this one. And this first clip highlights what looks like a tough drama, even without handy subs.

Sundance Selects already has U.S. rights for the movie, but no release date has been set just yet. Watch below.

  1. I can't wait for this movie!
I agree with @Stergios! Marion is an amazing actress and should have at least 3 Oscar nominations by now! I still can't believe how she got snubbed for Rust and Bone while bad and mediocre performances (except for Emmanuelle Riva) got nominated over her! it was shameful!

  2. @stergios : While Cotillard's talent is certainly above reproach, when your effusive praise runs longer than the article that inspired your comment, it might be time to lay off the caffeine.

  3. It's so rare to watch an actor/actress transform himslef/herself into a character completely. And so magical when that happens. It always does with the incomparable Marion Cotillard and this clip for the highly anticipated new Dardennes Brothers film is just another indication. This year, with her terrific turn in "Blood ties", her towering performance in "The Immigrant" and what seems (and definitely will be) as another acting masterclass in "Two days, one night", she commands the screens around the world once again. If she doesn't take home her second Oscar in 2015 for either "The Immigrant" or "Two days, one night", there's no justice at all in this world we live in. Marion Cotillard is the best actress of all time. She's so great it's almost non-human. I mean, this woman doesn't act, she's possessed everytime she gets to play a character. No matter the role, she just kills it everytime. And I mean every single time. She's like a force of nature, she tops everything and everyone around her when she vanishes into her each role. Her range is truly unbelievable and she should have had at least 15 oscar wins by now. Actually, she should have an Oscar just for being born, because her talent is literally incoceivable. She's maybe an android or something, because it's maybe not natural by human standards to watch an actress be that talented! Of course, I'm just kidding, but I've seen her whole filmography, so I know what I'm talking about. She's just otherworldly as an actress and it's shame she has never been nominated again for an Oscar after grabbing her first one back in 2008 for giving the best female performance of all time in "La vie en rose". I mean, what on Eart? She wasn't even nominated for "Rust and bone"! I mean, seriously? Her performance there is gigantic, to say the least. The Academy should have built a statue with her name on it just for giving that performance. It doesn't even feel like a performance… That's just acting of the highest order. She's just an example of uncompromising brilliance in acting. I can't even praise her enough just for the clip I watched from the new Dardennes Brothers film. And of course, those incredible filmmakers who explore our modern society in a way only a few directors can claim they're capable of doing. I'm more than a 100% sure that "Two days, one night" is another triumph for them and another triumph of course for their unmatched leading actress. Marion, you're just a goddess of cinema. A true goddess. One and only.
