The question of whether or not our lives are more than just the brief impression we make in the few decades we occupy this Earth that has been spinning for millions of years before we were here and will be spinning for millions of more after we're gone, is one that many have grappled with. Some say that after we die we go to heaven (or hell) or return in another form or just provide fertilizer. But in "Cloud Atlas" our lives continue in one connected thread, and The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer have put that theory up in the form of a time-spanning, multiple character movie that is certainly ambitious.
With the film a few more weeks from release, the marketing machine is beginning to roll out very hard. Thus from overseas we have an international featurette that presents the key players, talking about the narrative worlds they inhabit and the overarching theme of the movie. Meanwhile, WB keeps rolling out the TV spots, with two more selling the spectacle along with the weightier ideas behind the movie. It's the kind of movie that isn't easy to package up, but we have to say WB is certainly putting their best foot forward with this and seem to have balanced the elements well in their campaign.
Starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Bae Doona, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess and more "Cloud Atlas" will hit theaters on October 26th. Watch below. [The Film Stage/HeyUGuys]
