Got a Tip?

Watch: Featurette For ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ Anthony Russo Says Spider-Man & Ant-Man Are Comic Relief

Captain America: Civil WarIf the premise of Captain America and Iron Man duking it out didn’t tip you off, “Captain America: Civil War” is going to be a bit more grim than its predecessors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But don’t worry: there will be a couple of characters stopping by to lighten the proceedings.

Now that Spider-Man is officially confirmed for ‘Civil War’ (though everyone kinda knew that for a while now), it looks like in addition to lending his webslinging skills, he’ll be joining Ant-Man in providing a number of quips.

“…not all the characters in the movie have the same investment in the conflict,” the film’s co-director Anthony Russo recently said at Brazil’s Comic Con Experience (via Comic Book Movie). “There are certain characters that come into the story a little later who don’t have the same baggage that the Avengers have in terms of what’s going on in the film. So they don’t have as much darkness to deal with in the film, so they can be a little lighter and more fun. I think the movie has a healthy balance between very serious, interesting and very surprising storytelling, and sort of light, fun and humor.”

Russo additionally said that “characters like Spider-Man and Ant-Man enter the story a little later” to deliver the jokes the picture needs. Nothing wrong with a little balance, but let’s just hope the mix works well.

Below, you can see that a better sense of the tone is explained by the directors and cast in a new featurette that’s featured in the Marvel Phase Two boxset. Check it out.
