From Adam West to Ben Affleck, the DC Comics character Batman has come a long way from its ink and panel origins. It’s now a franchise worth hundreds of millions, even billions of dollars. The brand has extended to video games, toys, and countless items of official merchandise, but the major player, of course, is the movies. But how did we get here? Well, this terrific video essay explores Batman’s journey.
Jacob T. Swinney pulled together "The Evolution of Batman In Cinema," and it’s a great, exhaustive look at the Dark Knight on all screens. From his black-and-white days on television, to the big screen operas from Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan (among others), and even including the animated iterations, Swinney’s video is an eye-opening reminder of how much Gotham has been explored, and yet, it seems there are always new corners waiting to be discovered.
This is a great watch, so check it out below. [35MM]
