Fear The Man With Nothing Left To Lose. So goes the tagline of David Michod‘s “The Rover” starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson, and with the film now headed to Cannes, A24 has dropped a new trailer and a couple of posters for the thriller. And yes, it looks pretty damn good.
Already showcasing his skill at capturing men pushed to the brink in “Animal Kingdom,” Michod’s latest takes it even further. Set ten years after the collapse of society, with the rule of law now tossed out the window, the story kicks off when Rey (Pattinson) is carjacked and left for dead, only to fall into an partnership with loner Eric (Pearce), who helps him track the down the gang of thieves. And the story, conceived by Michod and Joel Edgerton, looks like one packed with a grim sense of place and a palpable atmosphere of a post-apocalyptic world.
And oh yeah, the song in the trailer? That’s Sol Seppy‘s “Enter One” which you can listen to in full below. “The Rover opens in New York and L.A. on June 13th and expands nationwide on June 20th. Watch the new trailer below.
This looks like a moody, brilliant masterpiece. I think this could be the breakout hit at Cannes. If the film is half as strong as the trailer, look out. We're going to be talking about this film for a long, long time.
Been looking for the since the teaser came out! Very strong. Looks like Michod has another winner!
Looks great. Pattinson's southern accent is spot on. His vulnerability as a broken, delayed man is portrayed so perfectly. And Pearce is just so tough, bare bones. Cannot wait for this. Great job Michod, Pearce, Pattinson and all involved.
Fab trailer, looks like an intriguing movie. I've loved Guy for years and Robert Pattinson looks amazing in this, like a completely different person. Can't wait for this one.
Guy Pearce looks reeeeallly good here.
The sooner Robert Pattinson stops being bankable the better for cinema. talentless fop
wow, amazing trailer.
I am guessing the tone of the film will be nothing like the silly song in the trailer. Animal Kingdom was basically a modern day Godfather. This will probably be the best film of the year.
No, the brothers that are stealing Guy's car and leave Rey behind for dead (Scoot's McNairy's character's brother) are not Australian. From Michod at Flickfest: "In The Rover, Scoot and Rob's characters are from Texas."
Pattinson is so fresh in this
Blown away, Rob's performance looks awesome and his accent too.
In before the delusional Pattinson loonies start claiming that he will be up for an Oscar. This looks like Guy Pearce's film and I can't wait!
Robert Pattinson accent is terrible.
