So, while we wait for the eventual “The Master” release on home video that will offer up 20 minutes of deleted scenes from Paul Thomas Anderson‘s latest film, here’s a chance to take an interesting rewind through this first five films.
Over on Vimeo, Kevin Lee has put together two interesting little videos: one that compiles every symmetrical two-shot in Anderson’s first five features, and one with all the whip pans. Pretty nerdy, we know. But it’s also sort of cool to see the development of the filmmaker who loved those kinds of shots and seems to have gradually done away with them over time. And while our memory on “The Master” is a bit rusty, the number of both two-shot and whip pans is quite small. Anyway, geek out below.
Now someone needs to do one for all the push ins and pull outs for Wes Anderson.
