Watch: Ethan Hawke Stops Crime Through Time In New Trailer For ‘Predestination’

PredestinationDid you ever want to see a mix of "Minority Report" and "Looper"? Well, "Predestination" might just fit the bill. The sci-fi/action flick reteams Ethan Hawke with "Daybreakers" filmmakers Michael and Peter Spierig, and after a jaunt on the festival circuit this year, it’s headed to theaters in the early part of 2015, and a new trailer is here.

Co-starring Noah Taylor, Sarah Snook, and more, the story is a bit twisty, and not the easiest thing to summarize, so I’ll let the official synopsis do the talking. Here you go:

Based on the short story “All You Zombies” by Robert A. Heinlein, PREDESTINATION chronicles the life of a Temporal Agent (Ethan Hawke) sent on an intricate series of time-travel journeys designed to ensure the continuation of his law enforcement career. Now, on his final assignment, the Agent must recruit his younger self while pursuing the one criminal that has eluded him throughout time.

It’s a heady concept, but unfortunately, one that never quite adds up. Our man at SXSW called the effort "boring, overlong, pretentious, and oddly under-styled," adding that "it’s the work of a bunch of filmmakers who seemingly wanted to offer up a WTF-worthy twist ending and tried to reverse engineer a movie from it." Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but considering ambitious sci-fi efforts are few and far between, you might give it a spin anyway. "Predestination" hits cinemas and VOD on January 9, 2015. 1. "…ambitious sci-fi efforts are few and far between." What far away mountain top are you living on with your head up your arse? At no time in entertainment history has there been more sci-fi in films and TV, both stupid and good, regardless of how you qualify it.
