Made nine years apart from each other, Richard Linklater‘s “Before Sunrise” and “Before Sunset” hold a very special place in the hearts of many, in terms of contemporary romances. The first film, released in 1995, saw Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy play twentysomethings who spend a night together in Vienna after meeting by chance on a train. Nine years later, the second film saw them meet up in Paris, older and a little wiser.
And last summer, Linklater reunited his stars, now in their 40s, for “Before Midnight,” the third in the series, shot secretly in Greece and only announced once production was underway. The film premiered at Sundance back in January to some ecstatic reviews (and some more measured ones, like our own), and now you can get a look at the film for yourself, as Yahoo just premiered the first trailer for the picture.
The film picks up with Jesse (Hawke) and Celine (Delpy), now a couple and parents of twin girls, living in Paris and holidaying together on a Greek island. But as the trailer demonstrates, there may be trouble in paradise… To the eyes of this writer, who hasn’t yet seen the film, it looks like a more than worthy follow-up to the originals, and we can’t wait to check it out in full when it opens on May 24th. Watch the trailer below.
The story must go on until they will be old. It will be good to see Jesse's and Celine's love through different seasons in life. In the later later years, the movie can end like "The Notebook" but please not like "Amour".
The scene where they're watching the sunset strikes me as a reference to Rohmer's Le Rayon Vert. Can't wait to see this.
yes yes yes yes yes
The chemistry between Ethan and Julie in these films is undeniable and so beautiful to watch. I cannot wait to see the final installment of their story, which I consider to be one of the greatest love stories in film.
I'd take Certified Copy of any of the 'Before' films any day.
so many feelings for this. can't wait any longer.
