“Universal Pictures’ THE LOFT, originally scheduled for release on August 29, 2014, is now undated,” the studio wrote in June of this year. What did they do with the movie? Well, they sold it off to Open Road Films, and now, surprise, it’s coming out in a month. So that means, ALL the marketing materials are here now, including a trailer, a poster, and a motion poster. Yippee.
“Welcome to the Loft! It’s our own private oasis!” That means it’s basically douchebag headquarters. The film is about five married asshole friends who get their own penthouse so they can have all their covert affairs in one place without fuss or muss. But something goes awry, as one of their visitors is mysteriously killed and then it’s not “bros before hos” anymore. Uh oh. The psychological thriller stars Karl Urban, James Marsden, Wentworth Miller, Eric Stonestreet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Isabel Lucas, Rachael Taylor, and Rhona Mitra. Here’s the official synopsis:
Karl Urban (Star Trek Into Darkness) and James Marsden (2 Guns) star in the tense psychological thriller THE LOFT, the story of five married guys who conspire to secretly share a penthouse loft in the city–a place where they can carry out hidden affairs and indulge in their deepest fantasies. But the fantasy becomes a nightmare when they discover the dead body of an unknown woman in the loft, and they realize one of the group must be involved. Paranoia seizes them as everyone begins to suspect one another. Friendships are tested, loyalties are questioned and marriages crumble as the group is consumed by fear, suspicion and murder in this relentless thriller.
Directed by Eric Van Looy (remaking his own Belgian film) and written by Bart De Pauw (also part of the original team) and Wesley Strick, “The Loft” hits theaters on January 23, 2015. Hatewatch the first trailer below and let us know what you think. It should at the very least be good trash? Right?
Add your voice to the conversation, is about love and sex.
There is nothing in his post that suggests he thinks women can do no wrong. I agree with him.The guys seem like douchebags and the movie looks bad.
Why are you so mad about this movie? Because it\’s about a bunch of guys initially having fun cheating? Would you feel the same if a group of women pals did the same thing?
Or is this a supposed "feminist" stance? Seems like you\’re gunning for this movie from the outset because it\’s the guys bing naughty. For you, can females do no wrong? Clarify please.
i hate how you guys make remarks whether a film will be good or not. We\’re here to get details on the film world, not your opinion on the films.
Looks horrible.
I don\’t sense any personal issues.
Methinks some personal issues are creeping into this article. The film premise isn\’t all that ground breaking. Billy Wilder has done the best film on the subject so far.
It\’s Edward Davis, all his articles have errors. Why bother doing a decent job.
The film was in fact directed by Erik Van Looy, remaking his original Belgian film (which was a pretty decent potboiler, by the way).
Oh I get it now, douchebag bros are the characters in the movie. Either way please correct your article as we did not write or direct this film. Thanks.
No really, don\’t hold back, tell the internet how you really feel about the subject matter….
Maybe check IMDB before you publish your article, but my brother and I were not involved with this movie in any way. Thanks for the "douchebag" moniker though, that was nice…
