Watch: Dangerous Dancing In New ‘Footloose’ Trailer & Craig Gillespie Helmed Kid Cudi Vampire Video

Our man across the pond spent this weekend at Empire’s Big Screen where among the many films showing off their wares was Craig Brewer‘s “Footloose,” and surprisingly he described the clip by saying, “it’s handsomely shot, the music’s well chosen and the performances aren’t too awful.” Well, a fresh trailer has dropped and yes, it’s not as wholly offensive as we would’ve thought, but it’s also not very good either.

The plot you already know: Bomont has banned dancing but those young kids are gonna find a way to keep moving anyway with the girls in the movie seeming particularly adept at wearing short shorts and swinging their hips as they walk down the street. You would think a town that bans naughty dancing would already have some kind of dress code in place, but we digress. Anyway, it isn’t long before a new guy arrives in town (Kenny Wormald), bringing his outrageous accent with him and starts romancing the local preacher’s daughter (Julianne Hough) much to the chagrin of Dennis Quaid (who has our fullest sympathies for being forced to stoop this low). It’s shot more or less like an expensive movie video, so in that regard, we suppose the film has accomplished its modest goals.

And speaking of music videos, “Fright Night” helmer Craig Gillespie has also had some time to knock out some work for Kid Cudi, getting behind the camera for “No One Believes Me.” The video sees the rapper playing a morose vampire wandering around the suburbs and yeah, where “Footloose” is at at least engaging, this one nearly put us sleep. It certainly doesn’t help that the song is sort of terrible and there is only so much a director can do to make mediocrity interesting. But we’ll say this, at least the rapper has a knack for making some intriguing choices for helmers: you might remember Shia LaBeouf directed a video for Kid Cudi earlier this year.

Anyway, lock up your daughters, because “Footloose” opens on October 14th. [Yahoo/Smoking Section]

  1. saw an early screening of the remake Footloose, must say its better than the original. A lot of good reviews on the remake.
Certainly made for this new generation.

  2. Julianne Hough now has to drop that old horse’s ass boyfriend of hers, Ryan Seacrest. It is unfortunate that she is as attractive as she is misguided with her poor taste in men. She should be with someone around her age not a guy who obviously can’t handle women around his age.
