A couple of music bits and beats this afternoon.
First up, a clip has hit the web from Michael Rapaport‘s feature-length documentary on hip-hop legends A Tribe Called Quest titled “Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest.” Premiering back in January to strong reviews in Sundance and set to hit the Tribeca Film Festival later this month, the film covers a lot of ground including the band’s early days, their reunion, internal conflict and Phife’s illness as well as the requisite talking head commentary. In the clip below, we find Q-Tip talking about the expectations on the band as they began work on what would become “The Low End Theory” and his cool-headed approach that didn’t let the idea of a sophomore slump enter into the equation. It’s a pretty compelling little clip. Also? That hat rules.
Next, New York indie rockers TV on the Radio have a new album out, “Nine Types of Light,” and to help get the word out, they’ve made a one-hour movie with videos for every song on the film. Ok, good idea. The bad part? The interviews are with random New Yorkers about dreams, love, fame and the future. To be honest, we couldn’t get past the first minute of this thing, but for fans, it should be a delight. And note: Tunde Adebimpe not only directed the whole thing, he also did the video for “Forgotten.” [Prefix/The Film Stage]

You skipped the entire video (most of which are really cool music videos, especially the last four or five) because you couldn\’t deal with a minute of the far less time-consuming interviews?
