The Pixar money train will continue rolling in a big way this summer when “Cars 2” revs its engines on screens across the land, but the studio won’t miss an opportunity to continue flogging one of their other major franchises as the adventures of “Toy Story” will continue in a new short entitled “Hawaiian Vacation.”
Featuring a star-studded returning cast including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Michael Keaton, Jodi Benson, Joan Cusack, Wallace Shawn, Don Rickles, Estelle Harris, Blake Clark, Bonnie Hunt, Timothy Dalton, Kristen Schaal, Jeff Garlin and John Ratzenberger in a story that will focus on the famous Mattel dolls as they gear up for a Hawaiian vacation, only to discover they didn’t get quite as far as they thought. Cynicism aside, Ken and Barbie were the scene-stealers in “Toy Story 3” and a short centered around them promises to be a lot of fun. The film was directed the Oscar nominated helmer of the charming “Lifted” that preceded “Ratatouille.”
A clip from the film has landed, and while it isn’t much to go on, it seems like the gang are back and doing what they do best. Can’t say we have any complaints. “Hawaiian Vacation” will front “Cars 2” when it opens on July 22nd. [HeyUGuys]
