Got a Tip?

Watch: Chimps Go Ape In ‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Trailer

BRAAAAAAAAAHM! BRAAAAAAAAAHM! BRAAAAAAAAAHM! BRAAAAAAAAAHM! You hear that? Nope, it’s not the trailer for “Inception,” it’s the copycat sound design used by every tentpole film now — yeah, we’re looking at you “Battle: Los Angeles” and “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” — and that appears right in the midst of the latest spot for “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.”

Playing like a PETA-sponsored infomercial, the takeaway here is: chimps aren’t people. So if you experiment on them, they will go crazy and then try to kill you. Ouch. Luckily James Franco is here to save the day with his science and probably with explosions too, along with Freida Pinto, who does something more substantial in the movie we’re sure (or at least we hope). Anyway, John Lithgow, Andy Serkis and Brian Cox (BAD GUY ALERT) round out the cast in an origin story that will chronicle the engineering feat that advanced intelligence in apes and set off the war for species supremacy. Rupert Wyatt directs and we’ll say this lest we get accused of being “haters” — the special effects look pretty good.

The words “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” will circle your giant tub of cross promotional popcorn on August 5th. Trailer below.

Agreed. I get such a sinking feeling about Green Lantern. On the one hand, Reynolds was a terrible casting pick, and I won\’t mind him getting taken down a peg. On the other hand, a flop will be a real kick in the balls to DC films. It will really undermine their faith and strategy of putting out anything other than Batman films and poorly done Superman films.

  2. To continue this summer\’s on going critical deception, it\’s safe to assume that because you think the trailer looks bad, that means the movie\’ll be good.

Because Thor was excellent and not at all bad. And Bridesmaids was the funniest movie of the year and not mildly pleasing but ultimately too long.

Just like X-Men is going to be thrilling and not cheesy like Kick Ass. And Super 8 is going to make you jump in your seat and not have you leaving the theatre frustrated at Abrams\’ inability to provide satisfying closure.

  3. District 9 and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen use similar tubasynth sounds in their trailers as well. Both of those predate the kick-ass Inception trailer, if memory serves.

  4. Looks absolutely fantastic! The special effects looks ace and story seems intelligent. Anyone who thinks that James Franco can\’t carry a movie haven\’t seen 127 hours or Howl. Franco was also by far the best part of Pineapple Express.
