If the promo materials for “The Last Stand” are anything to go by, we don’t really know why anyone was excited about Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to acting. Although he was never renowned for his skills as an actor, it’s clear that age has caught up with the Austrian Oak. With the film's release date drawing closer, the studio has released a red-band trailer to pump up Arnie’s fans for the action in store.
"The Last Stand" was helmed by the talented Kim Jee-Woon (“I Saw The Devil,” “The Good The Bad The Weird”) but you'd never know it from the footage so far. Nor is the director's skill apparent in this red-band trailer. Exploding body and squirts of ketchup aside, the movie still looks like a wholly anonymous effort by one of the most interesting filmmakers working today. And that’s not even mentioning that somehow Johnny Knoxville is the second lead. Are we stuck in a time warp?
Still, if the success of “The Expendables” films have shown anything, it’s that a certain segment of the audience is still hungry for the action icons of yesteryear. Check out the red-band trailer below before the movie opens on January 18th.
This trailer fucked up my morning.
