While her husband Ryan Reynolds has been hogging the spotlight lately thanks to “Deadpool” (while everyone politely pretends “Criminal” didn’t happen), this summer it’ll be Blake Lively‘s time to shine. She’ll be walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival soon for Woody Allen‘s “Café Society,” and on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, she’s going toe-to-toe or wave-to-wave with a shark in “The Shallows.”
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (“Orphan,” “Non-Stop,” “Run All Night“) the movie has a pretty simple premise: Blake Lively vacations in a beautiful, tropical paradise, only to wind up in shallow water, with a blood-thirsty shark between her and the shore. Here’s the official synopsis:
In the taut thriller The Shallows, when Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a secluded beach, she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. Though she is stranded only 200 yards from shore, survival proves to be the ultimate test of wills, requiring all of Nancy’s ingenuity, resourcefulness, and fortitude.
I dunno, maybe it’ll be cheeseball fun? “The Shallows” opens on June 24th. Check out the trailer up top, and some viral footage below.
