Joss Whedon has been looking for ways to change up the game for "Avengers: Age Of Ultron." A couple months back he revealed he had "a pre-credit Bondian blow-out" planned for the movie, but what about the now standard post-credit sequence? Sorry kids, there won’t be one this time around. Why? Because the team around the movie felt they couldn’t top the shawarma sequence from "The Avengers."
“It didn’t seem to lend itself in the same way, and we wanted to be true to what felt right,” Whedon explained to EW. “The first rule of making a sequel is take the best moments and do something else. Don’t do the Indiana Jones gun trick again differently. Just go somewhere else. Don’t try to hit the same highs, because people will sense it.”
So, in the absence of a post-credits scene, what will audiences get? “There will be a tag. But there’s not a post-post-credit scene,” Marvel honcho Kevin Feige said. In case you’re wondering, a "tag" is a scene that appears mid-way through the credits.
“There is nothing at the very end. And that’s not a fake-out,” Whedon emphasizes. “We want people to know so they don’t sit there for 10 minutes and then go: ‘Son of a bitch! I’ll kill them!’”
And despite lots of back and forth on the matter over the matter during the last couple days, Feige and Whedon confirm both Julie Delpy and Linda Cardellini have roles in ‘Ultron,’ but of course, they’re not spilling any secrets. But that’s not preventing rumors from flying around as to their parts). Feige insists Marvel won’t be introducing the long-rumored Captain Marvel in ‘Age Of Ultron,’ but admits there is at least one secret female character. “It’s not a big deal. But it’s a good character."
With all this chatter, it would seem that ‘Ultron’ is a very serious matter, but thankfully some folks are taking things a bit more lightheartedly. Vulture has dropped a pretty amusing trailer for ‘Ultron,’ advertised as if it were a blockbuster in 1995. And just to bring things back full circle, a new featurette has landed for the sequel as well. And in case you forgot, the flick opens on May 1st.
The shawarma scene didn\’t top the Thanos reveal. It wasn\’t funny either, not even in a Whedonly awkward sense.
