Like we said yesterday about Emma Watson stepping out boldly in her post-“Harry Potter” career, same goes for Daniel Radcliffe. The actor, who has done a couple of small films in between the ‘Potter’ pics and earned raves on stage in “Equus” and “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying,” is set to taking his first leading role now that he’s all grown up, in the horror film “The Woman In Black.”
It’s certainly a new direction for the actor, and one that allows him to shake off the shackles of being the boy wizard, and we have to say, it looks pretty solid. The Hammer Films production involves a young lawyer (Radcliffe), who arrives in a small town on the east coast of England to settle the affairs of a recently deceased old woman, only to discover a series of strange occurrences, including those involving the titular lady. Yeah, it’s straight-up genre fare, and we’ve seen this movie a million times, but this version still seems pretty compelling, with a focus that looks to be heavier on atmosphere than cheap jump scares (though there are a couple of those). The talent behind the camera is pretty solid as well with “X-Men: First Class” scribe Jane Goldman penning the screenplay and James Watkins, director of the Michael Fassbender horror flick “Eden Lake” in the director’s chair.
“The Woman In Black” will hit theaters on February 3, 2012 one week before it lands in the U.K. on February 10th. Check out the trailer below.
Nick it is a bigger departure that Watsons role because watson is still playing a teen in highschool coming of age type role (with drugs, smoking and drinking, this is the only difference really) Radcliffe is playing an adult character a lawyer, and a father and there is no school involved. I looked up perks ya the character is different but i don\’t think that it is something that will break her from the mold of Harry Potter she really has not shown much range as an actress yet and I don\’t feel she ever will.
The book is excellent and hopefully the film can do it justice. Love the teasers so far.
This doesn\’t look like much of a departure compared to Watson. This looks like Harry Potter in a scary house. Horror movies usually do well at the box office no matter who is in them.
I much preferred the previous trailer, although I think I almost always prefer teaser trailers.
