Got a Tip?

Watch: 9 Minutes From Anime Adaptation ‘Kite’ Starring Samuel L. Jackson

Kite

There are a lot of movies coming in 2014, but one you might have unfortunately forgotten about is “Kite.” Why should you keep this one on your radar? Well, it’s an adaptation of an anime that is renowned for it’s rather graphic sexuality, and not only does Samuel L. Jackson star in the movie, he’s a big fan of the material as well, which hopefully means this version will retain some of the spirit of the source material.

At any rate, you’ll be able to judge for yourself, as nine minutes from the movie—a trailer followed by a lengthy clip—have emerged by surprise online, presumably ahead of schedule, considering there isn’t even a release date yet for “Kite.” The film is based on the comic by Yasuomi Umetsu and directed by Ralph ZimanIndia Eisley (“The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” “Underworld: Awakening”) and Callan McAuliffe (“The Great Gatsby,” “I Am Number Four“) co-star in the tale that’s set in a failed state where a corrupt security force profits on the trafficking of young women. When a girl’s (Eisley) policeman father is killed, she vows to track down the murderer with the help of his ex-partner (Jackson).

The result? Dubstep, guns and kicking in something that certainly looks very graphic novel-y. As we said, no release date yet, but watch below and let us know what you think. [via Dark Horizons]

  1. !!!! I saw this like 2 weeks ago; I'm so glad it's finally getting attention. I really am super excited to see this particular film and the feel and music of the movie is unique! it's nice to see India Eisley is branching out into more films . This looks to be promising, for bother the movie AND her career ( hopefully ).

  2. There is no graphic novel, Jackson is talking complete shit.
It was a pornographic anime that happened to have a good story (a direct rip on La Femme Nikita but join the club on that one) and some sensational, ultraviolent action scenes.
It got grabbed for international release and had the sex scenes cut out, then had them put back in so they could sell it to people twice.
It was raunchy and over the top and a lot of fun in a way that hit a certain segment of the audience exactly where they wanted it. If this movie is going for that level of violence it might explain why the action in the trailer looks so bad, but it could be the director just doesn't know how to shoot action worth a damn, like most people directing action movies.
