Maybe it seems as if making a teen comedy shouldn’t be that difficult, but getting the ingredients right is no easy feat. The tone certainly requires a specific touch, but it’s authenticity that can be hard to nail. It requires the end result to not feel calculated, like a movie made for teens, yet it should speak to that audience directly and easily. Does "The Duff" have it what it takes?
Well, today we have six clips and two behind-the-scenes featurettes from the film. Mae Whitman (Ann/Bland/Her) leads the movie, playing the titular Designated Ugly Fat Friend who employs of the help of her childhood friend/total hunk/popular guy to remake her into someone dateable so she can approach the dude she has a crush on. Simple enough premise, and Whitman seems to be taking to her first lead role like a duck to water.
"The Duff" opens on February 20th.
