Got a Tip?

Watch: 50-Minute ‘Story Of Star Wars’ From 1999 With George Lucas, ‘Phantom Menace’ Cast, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola

Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom MenaceStar Wars: The Force Awakens” is coming, and as the days count down, the buzz is cresting into an incessant roar. The film is set to hit stateside in less than a month, and the road between now and then is surely going to be littered with more hype —though it’s starting to feel unnecessary. Isn’t ‘The Force Awakens’ already guaranteed a gangbusters opening? Hasn’t it already sold $50 million in advance tickets? Isn’t there a point where people might feel like they’ve already seen the film through the plethora of trailers? It was only last month that J.J. Abrams promised there would be no new trailers, yet an international spot loaded with unseen footage dropped less than two weeks later

So, if you’re like me, a full fledged ‘Star Wars’ fan, but one who still believes in seeing a film with a bit of mystery left intact, this just resurfaced documentary “Omnibus: A Long Time Ago… The Story Of Star Wars” is a great way to get in the spirit without completely ruining the forthcoming flick. Originally released in 1999, the 50-minute TV doc gets behind the scenes on the then-upcoming “Star Wars: Episode One — The Phantom Menace.” It’s loaded with interviews with George Lucas, Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman and many more of those involved (most of whom take a moment to tear into Lucas’ famously ridiculous dialogue), as well as Lucas’ director peers Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. It’s a fascinating look back to the months leading up to that film’s release, when most of the hope for the prequels was still alive.

Should we have similar worries for ‘The Force Awakens’? Or will it live up to the hype? Check out ‘A Long Time Ago… The Story Of Star Wars’ and weigh in with your thoughts in the comments below. [Cinemania]
