The Gary Ross (“The Hunger Games,” “Pleasantville“)-helmed “Free State of Jones” starring the one and only Matthew McConaughey is slated to hit theaters nationwide this weekend, bringing the Oscar-winner back to dramatic territory as he plays Newt Knight, a farmer during the Civil War who decided to take matters into his own hands. In order to fight back against the Confederacy, Knight joins forces with other small farms and local slaves to defend what they believe in.
In one new five minute clip, you can watch one of the battle scenes from the beginning of the film, as MMC instructs and protects a younger soldier (Jacob Lofland), both making their way down the battlefield. Avoiding free falling shells and sharpshooters, the pair zigzag ([SPOILER REDACTED] from “Game Of Thrones” this week could’ve learned something from their maneuvering) and try to make it to safety. It’s a pulsating clip that throws you right into the action.
We’ll have our review of the movie before it opens — in the meantime, you can watch below.
