Watch: 45-Minute Video Essay Investigates The Fascinating Career Of Crispin Glover

WillardCrispin Glover is an anomaly in modern Hollywood: a restless iconoclast who, after dabbling in a series of successful Hollywood pictures, has gone on to forge one of the most singular careers in modern motion pictures. There has never been another actor quite like him, and we’re all blessed to have been witness to his many great performances, from his immortal nerd George McFly in the “Back to the Future” series to his amusing turn as a one-armed bellhop in the otherwise dire “Hot Tub Time Machine.” And for those of you in need of a Glover fix, No Small Parts — a series of video essays committed to highlighting the work of performers generally thought to be underappreciated — has recently devoted a new forty-five minute video to Mr. Glover’s tremendous body of work.

Fans of the actor will have a field day with this one, which opens with some winningly cheesy vintage footage from “The Best of Times,” a 1981 T.V. pilot that never got picked up. The show obviously didn’t go anywhere, but it was responsible for introducing the young, gawky Glover to the world, as well as a beefed-up Nicolas Cage (the two remain friends to this day). The video highlights nearly all of Glover’s amazing performances, from his haunting moments in the introductory preamble of Jim Jarmusch’s “Dead Man” to his batshit-crazy turn in the Thin Man in the “Charlie’s Angels” movies (just reading that should give you an idea of the variety apparent in his filmography). It’s proof, as if any was needed, that Glover is a national treasure and that his body of work is something to be cherished.
