Watch: 3-Minute Trailer & More Footage From Terry Gilliam’s ‘The Zero Theorem’

nullWell, watch this while you can because it will probably be yanked off the Internet in short order. But for the past few weeks, some footage of Terry Gilliam‘s “The Zero Theorem” — including a rather spoiler heavy reel featuring 12 minutes of material — have been kicking around some parts of the interwebs, but over the weekend they made their way to some forums and YouTube, and thus here we are.

So below, you’ll see a 3-minute teaser trailer of sorts for “The Zero Theorem,” which gives a good measure of flavor without giving up major story elements. To recap, Christoph Waltz stars as an eccentric and reclusive computer genius, plagued with existential angst, who is working on a mysterious project aimed at discovering the purpose of existence — or the lack thereof — once and for all. But his task is constantly diverted and interrupted thanks to the Management, in what looks like a “Brazil“-esque tale of bureaucracy, with Gilliam’s penchant for playing with reality in full force.

More importantly, it does look like something of a return to form for the filmmaker, in what looks like his best effort in a while. Maybe we’ll see this in Venice? Melanie Thierry, Matt Damon, Tilda Swinton and more co-star/cameo. Watch below.

  1. Just another bit of superfluous mediocrity for people to anticipate until the next new project by a beloved director comes along. The fact that Gilliam came on board late and how fast they seemed to film it, leaves me not expecting anything more.

  2. there hasn't been one gilliam film i have not enjoyed in some capacity. some more than others, admittedly, yet his wild and kooky imagination always offers something to behold, even when the parts are greater than the sum. the brazil vibe here is evident. however, the CGI is a bit of a letdown considering he once displayed tom waits morphing into a dragon/serpent.

  3. I'll say this for Gilliam… he's never boring.

And in almost every photo of him I see, he's got the eyes of "The Mad Monk." Like there's some batshit crazy universe on the other side of them — one I'd like to glimpse but never actually visit.
