Maybe Jonah Hill dodged a bullet? The actor, circa 2011, was all set to make his directorial debut with a monster mash-up film called “The Kitchen Sink,” which featured vampires, monsters, aliens, and more. Fast forward to 2015 and two weeks before the movie was scheduled to come out, it had a new title, “Freaks Of Nature,” a new trailer, and a kind of “surprise, this movie actually exists” announcement.
So, is it a trick or treat? Sony hasn’t done much in the way of press screenings, but Playlist contributor Nick Shager called it a “lifeless combination of alien invasion saga, zombie thriller, vampire romance and high-school drama,” in his review for Variety.
The movie stars Nicholas Braun, Mackenzie Davis, Josh Fadem, Joan Cusack, Bob Odenkirk, Keegan-Michael Key, Ed Westwick, Patton Oswalt, Vanessa Hudgens, and Denis Leary, and yes, that’s a pretty random cast. But maybe if you’re seeking some silly Halloween fun at the movies this weekend, it’ll be the ticket for you. If you want a taste of what the movie is like, Sony released three new clips and a ton of posters and photos. “Freaks Of Nature” comes out in limited release today. Maybe you can be one of the few people who can boast to their kids twenty years from now that you actually saw it in theaters. Watch below.
