Watch: 20-Minute ‘Inherent Vice’ Interview With Paul Thomas Anderson, Plus Meet Shasta Fay In New Promo

Inherent ViceIt might seem like we’ve been talking about "Inherent Vice" forever at this point, but it’s only this weekend that Paul Thomas Anderson‘s film finally goes into wide release. The sun-soaked noir is every bit the head trip you’d expect from a Thomas Pynchon adaptation, and this trying to talk about the film, and condense the sprawling, nearly two-and-a-half-hour movie into bite size quotables is a tough task. But Anderson has been generous with his time on the press circuit and his latest stop was with Vice for this 20-minute chat.

From the start, Anderson isn’t eager to pin any deeper meanings or parallels on the cultural changing times around Doc Sportello, played by Joaquin Phoenix. The free-loving s’60s might be over, and The Man might’ve won, but in a strange way, the power is still with the people. Is it a comment on the political climate right now? Ask Pynchon. Meanwhile, Anderson cheekily talks about how his film is "kinda boring" with "just people talking in rooms," the evolving relationship people have with films, and much more.

Go see "Inherent Vice" this weekend. Watch the talk below, followed a great new Shasta Fay (the character played by Katherine Waterston) promo, and a couple new posters.
