Watch: 10-Minute VFX Reel For ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Shows How The Magic Was Made

Star Wars: The Force AwakensEarning five Oscar nominations this morning, the conversation around "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" isn’t going to end anytime soon. And with a couple of those nominations coming in Best Visual Effects and Best Editing, this recently released VFX reel shows that J.J. Abrams‘ movie could be a strong contender come Oscar night in those technical categories.

Running ten minutes long, and featuring a handful of sequences not previously seen in trailers and TV spots, the reel shows the tremendous amount of visual effects work involved in making the world of "Star Wars" come to life. No matter what quibbles you might’ve had about the movie, mostly everyone can agree it looked great, with the VFX seamlessly integrated, with no shortage of money spent to make sure it looked right.   1. to Bud…it\’s quite simple, this video is about the CGI vfx, not about the practical effects, that\’s why it doesn\’t show the practical fx

  2. \’Full digital shot\’, \’digital actors\’, \’digital environment\’\’digital creature\’, \’full digital shot\’ etc- what happened to all the practical effects they were bragging about in production? But at least it looked great for the most part, with the motion in flight and battle scenes actually obeying the laws of physics and easily tracking with the eye (unlike say Age of Ultron and most CGI orgies).
