One of the more interesting bromances in recent memory belongs to director Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling. The pair couldn’t stop falling over themselves praising each other through the press runs of the widely acclaimed "Drive" and the divisive "Only God Forgives," and now a new mashup pays tribute to the creative work the pair delivered.
Running ten minutes long, the video compares and contrasts the slick cool of "Drive" and what could be perceived as a rebuke of that cool, the dour and grim "Only God Forgives." A principled man in the former and a tortured soul in the latter, Gosling commands the screen without having to do much, while Refn places his star in one beautifully framed shot after another. Here’s hoping they do a third movie sometime down the line. Watch below.

I tell you, swearing on all I hold dear to me, Only God Forgives is a masterpiece of symbolism and extreme art. It's a beautiful, neon-soaked, blood-drenched, Oedipus-themed nightmare that is endlessly analysable without being boring about it.
An absolutely brilliant piece of cinema that people will come to love over time.

Only God Forgives is just as fascinating a masterpiece as Drive without question is. OGF is such a ballsy and extreme piece of work. It's like watching a Rembrandt picture in motion, or Dante's Inferno. More like Refn's inferno. But in artistic terms it's a nice companion piece to Drive which is the dream version of the nightmare that OGF is. I Walk with the Dead is my most anticipated film. Much love, Nic.
