Over the weekend, while we were busy watching the Oscars, Warner Brothers was busy getting ready for the years to come, tying up a deal for F. Scott Frazier‘s “Line of Sight.”
THR reports that the studio bought the spec script from Frazier, with Silver Pictures‘ Joel Silver and Andrew Rona attached to produce and Alex Heineman, who came up the idea for the film, executive producing. While producers remain mum on details, the plot is being described as a “high concept” action film surrounding a threat of attack on American soil. Two things to note however: this won’t be an alien invasion flick however, it will employ a POV perspective. So, yeah, like “Cloverfield” but sans aliens.
Frazier has been a bit of a hot new commodity lately. He sold “The Numbers Station” recently, a thriller set to shoot later this year with Malin Akerman and Ethan Hawke attached to star. He also wrote “Embassy;” little is known about this script, except that director Jose Padhilla of “Elite Squad” might take it on. But clearly, in the wake of “Inception,” Warner Bros. are hoping to continue bold, original big screen spectacles, and that’s certainly encouraging.
Meanwhile, Deadline is reporting that Sony has picked up the strange sounding “The Slackfi Project.” Written by Howard Overman (“Misfits,” “Vexed“) the plot concerns a barista who is told by two soldiers from the future that he alone can save mankind from doom. We’re presuming (and hoping) this is a comedy. No word yet on who is producing.
