Got a Tip?

Vincent Cassel Teams With Costa-Gavras For Financial World Drama ‘Le Capital’

It looks like Vincent Cassel‘s agent has had a busy week. Just two days after it was revealed that the actor was set to star in the sequel “Dobermann 2: Arm Wrestle,” Cassel has lined up yet another project.

Cineurope reports that Cassel is set to team with legendary filmmaker Costa-Gavras (“Z,” “Missing“) for the financial world drama “Le Capital.” Unlike recent films like “Too Big To Fail,” “Margin Call” or “Inside Job,” this project will expand it’s scope well beyond the borders of the United States taking “a behind-the-scenes look at the higher echelons of the banking world, where the thirst for money and power is masked as managerial rationality. Here we move in the circles of the economic elite and the international jet set between Paris, London, New York, Davos and Tokyo, basking in the artificial paradise of drugs, the artificial images of the Internet, the artificial bubble of fleeting fortunes, the artificial time of different time zones and artificial sex fueled by wild fantasies.” So kind of like a “Babel” for the banking world?

The film is named after the biggest bank in Europe and is based on a novel by Stéphane Osmont which features a satirical take on the head of the financial institution. We’re already wearying under the recent glut of these kinds of films, but Costa-Gavras will likely bring a unique approach and with Cassel at the center, we’ll definitely be watching. But this isn’t the first time Cassel has worked with a Gavras. The filmmaker is the father of up-and-coming helmer Romain Gavras, who made his feature debut with “Our Day Will Come” starring Cassel and has made waves earlier this year with his electric ad for Adidas featuring music by Justice.

No word yet on when this will get rolling, but with the expansive scope, we’d guess there will be more names attracted to the project very soon.

  1. Very good news, Cassell and Costa-Gavras will make a great team. If only C-G\’s film \”East Meets West\” would get distribution here. I saw it at a film festival and it is easily one of the best (and timely) films of the past few years. It reminded me of Chaplin, it\’s that good.
