The “Fast And Furious” ensemble cast gets even larger in “Fast X” with Brie Larson, Jason Momoa, and Rita Moreno joining the ranks. But Vin Diesel has eyes on another potential co-star for the franchise’s eleventh and final film. Variety reports that Diesel wants Robert Downey Jr. to join the family for the grand finale, with him playing a very particular character.
“Without telling you too much about what happens in the future, there’s a character who is the antithesis of Dom who is promoting AI and driverless cars and a philosophy that with that goes your freedom,” Diesel told Variety. “There is somebody that believes that’s the future, and that’s at direct odds with the Toretto mentality.” So, a tech-mogul type that’s kind of like Tony Stark? It sounds like RDJ could fit the bill there. But has Diesel pitched the part to Downey Jr. yet? Diesel’s playful response to that query: “How dare you ask me this question in front of all these people? I have pride and I have dignity.” So, nothing definitive on RDJ’s casting yet, but never say never.
As for other potential new co-stars for “Fast & Furious 11,” Diesel’s longtime co-star Michelle Rodriguez had another idea. “Who’s the guy from these amazing “Jason Bourne” movies? Matt Damon!” Rodriguez offered. “I f*cking want Matt Damon. Matt Damon, would you be in a “Fast and Furious” movie? C’mon, we got four Oscar winners, man. And you’re an Oscar winner!”
“Fast X” drifts into theaters on May 19, and boasts the franchise’s most star-studded cast yet. Alongside Diesel and Rodriguez, the film also stars series regulars Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and Jordana Brewster. Also returning for this installment: John Cena, Nathalie Emmannuel, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Cardi B, and Charlize Theron. Gal Gadot may be back as Gisele Yashar, too. Also joining Larson, Momoa, and Morena as new cast members are “Reacher” star Alan Ritchson and Daniela Melchoir, otherwise known as Ratcatcher II from “The Suicide Squad.”
With only one film left, Vin Diesel & co. will pull out all the stops to make the series send-off the biggest “Fast & Furious” film yet. But will Robert Downey Jr. or Matt Damon jump on board? Only time will tell.
