Got a Tip?

Video Preview: Judd Apatow’s ‘Pineapple Express’

Hey, we just wrote about this stoner comedy last week. It’s “Pineapple Express,” Judd Apatow’s summer comedy for summer 2008 and it’s directed by artisan David Gordon Green. It stars Seth Rogen and James Franco (both of “Freaks & Geeks fame) as stoner buddies who inadvertently witness a drug-related murder, and try and use the threat of mob of fugitives hunting you down as motivation to get their lives in order.

As we mentioned last wek, Seth Rogen has been trying to get Huey Lewis to write the film’s theme song. “Smell it. Smell [the pot]! Enjoy, it’s like God’s vagina.” Man, funny stuff. (shit, wow that was quick, it’s been taken down. Update: We found a working copy).

Ok, the run down on this 4 1/2 minute scene: Basically Rogen and Franco are sitting around discussing a killer bag of weed (called “Pineapple Express”), effusively awing about it’s wondrous smell and potency. “It’s this thing like El Nino, this air flow that comes from Hawaii and Canada and it gets the dirt, mixes it in with the weed in a very special way… It’s actually very scientific, I won’t go into it,” say the dope dealing Franco. Then they smoke the “apex and vortex of joint engineering” the “crucifix joint.” We’re sure another version will be making the rounds soon (and there it is).

Oh and it looks like the Huey Lewis’ participation is confirmed. Via MTV:

“I met Huey Lewis because he wrote a song for the movie,” Rogen revealed, confirming reports that the “Power of Love” singer lent his talents to the film. “I saw him after he saw the movie, and he was just going on and on about all the action in it and how he didn’t expect it to be a full-blown action movie.”

Ok, the clip is up again, and you’ll remember Franco’s funny from this “Knocked-Up” outtake. Rogen says Franco steals ‘Pineapple’: “He is absolutely hysterical, and I dare say one of the funniest stoners ever in a movie. And it’s all compounded by the fact that it’s coming from a guy who you did not think had one funny bone in his body.”

  1. Thanks for posting this. Pineapple Express looks incredible. And I never saw that outtake from “Knocked Up.” That was hilarious. I just watched “Freaks and Geeks” for the first time a few weeks ago so those jokes had me laughing so hard.
