When the first “Venom” film was announced, fans just assumed there would have to be a Spider-Man appearance, as the two characters are near inseparable in comic book lore. However, when the film was released and it was clear there was no immediate connection between Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock, aka Venom, and any version of Spider-Man, those hopes were seemingly dashed. Well, in a world where studios love crossing over franchises, especially superhero ones, it’s clear a Spider-Man/Venom crossover film is still a possibility, which greatly excites Hardy.

Speaking to Esquire about his new sequel, “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” Hardy talked about the possibility of crossing over with the larger “Spider-Man” franchise. And in no uncertain terms, it appears the actor is 100% on board with expanding “Venom” to include all the other ‘Spider-Man’ toys.
“I would be remiss if I wasn’t trying to steer any kind of connectivity,” Hardy said. “I wouldn’t be doing the job if I wasn’t awake and open to any opportunity or eventuality or be excited by that. Obviously, that’s a large canyon to leap, to be bridged by one person alone, and it would take a much higher level of diplomacy and intelligence, sitting down and talking, to take on an arena such as that.”

He continued, “Should both sides be willing, and it be beneficial to both sides, I don’t see why it couldn’t be. I hope and strongly, with both hands, push, eagerly, towards that potential, and would do anything to make that happen, within what’s right in business. But it would be foolish not to head towards the Olympic Games if you were running 100 meters, so yeah! I want to play on that field.”
Obviously, while studio heads have teased the possibility of a crossover, nothing has been announced. But it would seem highly unlikely that Sony wasn’t already planning some sort of “connectivity” as Hardy puts it. That said, before we see Venom have a showdown with Spidey, a recent rumor seems to put Hardy’s character in another ‘Spider-Man’-adjacent franchise sooner than fans might be expecting.
In a recent interview with MovieZine, filmmaker Daniel Espinosa talked about his upcoming “Morbius” superhero film, which stars Jared Leto as the title character, who has strong ties to Spider-Man in the comics. And during that interview, he mentioned Tom Hardy as one of the cast members that he met on set, which seemingly confirmed a Venom appearance in the film. But we shall see.
In the meantime, Hardy spoke about already thinking about the third “Venom” film, granted ‘Carnage’ does as well as everyone is expecting.
“I’m thinking about the third movie as well, because I think you need to write that at the same time,” he shared. “A third won’t be greenlit until the second is successful, but the studio were really, really pleased with number two.”
“Venom: Let There Be Carnage” is expected to arrive in theaters on September 24.
