Variety Confirms ‘Your Highness’ Casting; Reveals Film Is A Medieval Buddy Comedy

The trades, who have been decidedly beaten to the punch on this reporting have confirmed James Franco has joined the David Gordon Green/ Danny McBride stoner comedy, “Your Highness” and that Universal has greenlit the project (also something we already know).

What Variety does add that is that it was written by McBride and Ben Best, the actor/musician who played the kung-fu antagonist, Chuck “The Truck” Taylor in “The Foot Fist Way” (he’s also a member of the band Pyramid, who wrote the score to ‘Fist Way,’ and added some songs to “Observe & Report” too; plus he has a small role in the film too)

They also add a better synopsis that says the comedy “follows two spoiled and arrogant princes in a medieval fantasy setting. When an evil wizard casts a spell on their father and kidnaps the older prince’s fiance, they’re forced to go on a quest to save their family and the kingdom’ (it was unknown what Franco’s role was in the script when his participation was first announced).

There’s no shooting start date or a tentative release plan yet.

  1. I’m excited for it, but I hope theirs not this trend towards prick characters that don’t have some lovable qualities. Endearing jackasses are so much better than just plain nasty ones.

I didn’t love Pineapple Express as much as I hoped either, but I’m still holding out hope.

    I do love Krull.
