“Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets” is the most expensive movie every produced in France, but Luc Besson isn’t sweating it. The director says that 96% of the €197.47 million (about $210 million U.S.) budget has already been covered by international pre-sales, so EuropaCorp (which he heads) will be just fine. Still, you never want a mega-blockbuster to fail, and right now it’s hard to tell if audiences will be showing up. Well, Besson and co. hope they can ride on the tails of another tentpole to earn some attention.

The full opening sequence from ‘Valerian’ will be tagged to select screenings of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” when it opens next week. It’s not an unusual marketing move, though it’s likely an expensive one, and a bit risky too. If the buzz is bad, it won’t bode well for ‘Valerian,’ but that said, everyone must be feeling pretty confident about the footage if they’re putting it in front of one of the most anticipated films of the summer.
However, the ‘Homecoming’ promo is just one angle the team behind ‘Valerian’ is taking, with some sort of elaborate thing involving Amazon Stickers also available to dive into, if you want to unlock footage and exclusive content. Or, you can avoid all of this and just watch this new clip below, and see the movie when it opens on July 21st. [Collider]
