Okay, so maybe we’ve been a little harsh on Blumhouse’s upcoming film “Upgrade.” Last week, we might have responded to the newest trailer for the action film with a couple little jabs at the film’s star Logan Marshall-Green (who was honestly great in “The Invitation,” we must admit). And yes, the Internet stood up to defend the actor. But really, all this skepticism stems from “Upgrade” looking…well, not so great.

That is until we saw a new trailer, done in an ‘80’s-style. Now, we’re sold.
Released by CrypTV, this new “Upgrade” trailer takes all the footage you’ve seen (and apparently loved) from the previous marketing materials and spliced it together, added some grain, and changed the aspect ratio to present a version of the film that looks fun and interesting. If only the whole film was done in this style, maybe we would have turned into the biggest Logan Marshall-Green cheerleaders around!
All kidding aside, what CrypTV has done is a great piece of marketing for the upcoming violent action thriller. The premise of the film features a hero named Grey Trace (seriously) who is paralyzed after a brutal attack that kills his wife. He’s approached by a sketchy scientist, who installs an AI chip into his spine, giving Trace a major…wait for it…upgrade! He’s now this highly skilled fighter who is on a mission to avenge his wife’s death.
If that isn’t a premise tailor-made for the ‘80s, then we don’t know what is. Seriously, if it was 1987 and we saw this film in a VHS bargain bin, you better believe it would have been purchased. So, good for you, Blumhouse and CrypTV. You made us believers.
And you never know, maybe “Upgrade” will turn Logan Marshall-Green into a household name! Okay, probably not. But still, it looks fun.
Haha.
Now that is a cool promo trailer. looking forward to thefilmera.com review of this
