You've gotta assume this means Universal is predicting a fairytale ending. While the studio's upcoming summer tentpole, "Snow White and the Huntsman," didn't ever appear like it would lend itself to a sequel initially — it is, afterall, somewhat of a self-contained Snow White story — we heard a few weeks ago via Universal that chief Ron Meyer believes that the series could have a shelf-life past the first film if it were to center itself around the character of the Huntsman as played by Chris Hemsworth.
At the time, it felt like this hope would depend on the film's box-office, but about four weeks out from its June 1 release, it appears that Universal have already made up their mind, and they are now putting their money where their mouth is by hiring a writer to pen the sequel. Talk about confidence.
Word arrives from timestamp-obsessed Deadline who report that David Koepp is in discussions to write the screenplay. Known for touchstones like "Jurassic Park," "Carlito's Way," "Panic Room" and Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man," Koepp has kept busy in recent months writing "Men In Black 3" and "Premium Rush," a directorial effort scheduled to arrive later this summer starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He's also one of the many writers who have had a hand in developing Paramount's Untitled Jack Ryan Project.
There's no additional word, however, whether the sequel will indeed focus on the character that Hemsworth plays in the film. Surely Uni would love Kristen Stewart back again, but who knows whether she'd be available or interested. Those discussions are probably taking place right now. Evidently, Universal is hoping to fast track the project and hopes that 'Snow White' director Rupert Sanders will stay on board for the sequel. Guess we'll have to wait and see how it pans out.
One of the last times a major studio made a gamble like this was Warner Bros. with "The Hangover," and that paid off in spades. Then again, Warner also paid the price with "Green Lantern," which tanked, and then a mostly-developed sequel screenplay had to be redone from scratch (and is still likely in development). Still, also featuring Charlize Theron, Toby Jones, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Lily Cole, Nick Frost and many more, "Snow White and the Huntsman" looks like a cut above the average summer tentpole, and Universal, who has played it rather conservatively of late after a dismal 2009 and 2010, presumably aren't making this bet lightly.
I love Kristen Stewart and I will watch all her movies, if you don't like her, don't watch her,don't waste your time writting about her! only idiots do that. We all like different actors, personally I can't stand some actors, soI don't watch their movies, and I don't go bitching about them.
i like Kristen Stewart in WELCOME TO THE RILEYS and THE RUNAWAYS: she acts well the characters bored by the life and her " disillusioned" eyes are accurate.I remember also ADVENTURELAND .
But i dislike her in TWILIGHT movies,she looks demotived and without life (and the movies & stories are awful in my opinion)
For all the people bitching about how awful Stewart is, there are people who don't agree and who aren't twi-hards. In fact, I think Twilight is perhaps one of the worst films ever made. She's done dark, seriously depressing R rated indies for the most part…hence, she hasn't had a big box office pull. She played a sexually abused underage teenage stripper (that isn't exactly going to bring in big bucks) and The Runaways was a) not that great of a movie in the first place and b) R rated, which didn't help. Adventurland was R rated too and got pretty great reviews…However, it was definitely not mainstream. The only commercial, mainstream films she's done is Twilight and now this. No, she's obviously not as good as Carey Mulligan and her ilk, but Stewart is a decent actress. Anyway, I basically only read Roger Ebert, Dargis, and A.O. Scott in terms of film critics and all three like Stewart, so I'm obviously not the only one who thinks she can act.
The elephant in the room is: why does this film even need a sequel? Answer: it doesn't.
I see the same person is posting over and over. If Stewart had millions of fans her other non Twi films wouldn't have flopped spectacularly.
She took this part because she doesn't get the offers that Jennifer Lawrence, Rooney Mara or Carey Mulligan get. And Universal is hopping the Twihards will come and watch it. What they don't get is that Twihards are interested in the characters of S.Mayer's novel not the actors even though they can't tell the difference between the actors and their characters.

That's a pity – I greatly enjoy David Koepp's work but would have liked it if Hossein Amini stayed to write the sequel considering he wrote both this film and last year's phenomenal 'Drive'.

Universal will be making a HUGE mistake if Kristen is not in the sequel/s. She had commented earlier that she would love to be in the sequels and that she loves her role and feels over the top filming SWATH. Kristen sounds like she is totally looking forward to the sequels. As one of her dedicated fans in the world which numbers in the millions, a sequel without Kristen is a big disappointment and a letdown.
