Got a Tip?

Universal Doesn’t Want The Stars Of ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ To Talk Too Sexily About Their Sex Drama

No one bought “Fifty Shades Of Grey” for its literary value, and no one went to see the movie because it was promised high, cinematic art. The audience wanted sex, and presumably, that’s what they’re going to come for again in “Fifty Shades Darker.” However, it would appear that Universal has a different idea of what people are anticipating.

According to Page Six, Universal is telling the stars of the upcoming sequel, including lead actors Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, and everyone else to knock it off with it the heated sex talk and innuendos during the current press tour for the film.

“We can’t talk too much about nipple clamps. I used to send out some naughty little tweets, along the lines of this ‘sweater clasp’ and I was told by Universal that I couldn’t do it any more…,” Marcia Gay Harden told the paper. “I’m a good girl, I fell in line. Because it’s supposed to be more about the ‘romance.’”

One the one hand, I get it: Universal wants to lean on the love story, because it will draw a bigger audience. But the “Fifty Shades Of Grey” brand is tied up and blindfolded to hot steamy sex, and considering ‘Darker’ reportedly contains more bondage action and sex-toy play than the first movie, you’d think that would be the lede the marketing department would run with. But hey, I’m not paid the big bucks, so what do I know.

“Fifty Shades Darker” gets hot and heavy and romantic, I guess, on Friday. [via AV Club]
