After many, many, MANY delays, it looks like we are finally getting the neo-noir mystery “Under the Silver Lake” in theaters. The film, starring Andrew Garfield (“The Amazing SpiderMan“) and Riley Keough (“Logan Lucky“), made its world premiere at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Though it had some mixed reviews script-wise, people thought Garfield’s performance, the soundtrack, and the originality were all exceptional.
We originally expected the film not long after the Festival, but we just kept on waiting. The United States premiere was pushed back from June to December, from December to April. Now, as the April 19 expected release date draws near, we just hope we won’t have to wait any longer. The U.K., however, will get it just a little bit before us. A new trailer for “Under the Silver Lake” dropped in the U.K. yesterday, and with it an expected release date. The film will be distributed by Mubi in the United Kingdom with an expected release date of March 15.
David Robert Mitchell originally gained public attention after his breakthrough horror film “It Follows,” which received critical and commercial success that no one was expecting from the low budget indie. Thus, all eyes were on him when he started on “Under the Silver Lake.” Unfortunately, despite the admiration for Mitchell’s ambition and old-style Los Angeles feel, many found it confusing and thought Mitchell bit off more than he can chew. Hopefully, with the upcoming release dates in America and the U.K., the public will be able to watch and decide for themselves.
The film will be released on April 19, 2019, in America. Watch the new U.K. trailer for “Under the Silver Lake” here:
