You might think that Lars Von Trier‘s idea to shoot an erotic drama featuring hardcore sex might scare Hollywood types away. You would be wrong. With Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell and (oddly) Christian Slater among those taking part, another unexpected name has joined the cast.
Uma Thurman has come aboard “The Nymphomaniac” in an unknown role, with the movie now shooting in Germany. As you know, the ambitious project — which Von Trier is shooting in both hard and soft versions — tracks the sex life of a woman (Charlotte Gainsbourg) who recounts her tale to a bachelor (Stellan Skarsgard) who finds her badly beaten in an alley one evening. Thurman rounds out a cast that also includes Connie Nielsen and Stacy Martin.
It’s certainly an interesting move for Thurman who hasn’t been much of a presence on the big screen in the last few years, with roles in smaller indie films like “Bel Ami” and “Ceremony” along with a stint on NBC‘s “Smash.” She’ll next be seen in “Playing For Keeps” with Gerard Butler, while “The Nymphomaniac” takes off its clothes next year. Maybe she's replacing Kidman? She said in an interview recently that she was unsure if she would be able to do the film.
