Got a Tip?

UK Teen Drama ‘Skins’ To Get The Big Screen Treatment

If you haven’t seen the UK teen drama “Skins,” trust us, you’re not missing much. The show, which started off being a pretty decent slice-of-life drama at the look at the final years of high school, quickly degenerated into a series that continually tries to push buttons (sex! nudity! drugs! gasp!) while throwing anything resembling reality out the window. That said, the show has attracted numerous talent over the years with the likes of Nicholas Hoult (“A Single Man”), Dev Patel (“Slumdog Millionaire”) and Kaya Scodelario (Cathy in Andrea Arnold’s forthcoming “Wuthering Heights”) having graced the show at various points (the cast is changed out every two years).

MTV, noticing the show’s overseas success, have already picked up the rights to create a U.S. version. And now, a feature film version is also on the way. Set to begin lensing very soon, with cast members plucked from the show on both sides of the ocean, the plan is to get the film in front of cameras in September with an eye towards a summer 2011 release. Charles Martin, who has directed a handful of the UK episodes is on board to direct.

So what can you expect? Probably, an overly salacious plot about teenagers doing very, very bad things. Will Patel and Hoult return for the movie? We doubt it, but if they are nostalgic for the show that launched their careers we could see them popping up in cameos of sort.
